      Rating system is a part of the Centralized Transportation Management System. The purpose of the system is to apply rates on the waybill for every consignment that is transported by CSX. This system interacts with Automated Waybill System (AWS) to apply rates on bill and also it interacts with Revenue Management System (RMS) if there is any modification on customer freight bills. REN is an AAR/Railinc industry-wide initiative system that provides carriers an electronic means of exchanging interlines pricing data in standard EDI formats. CSXT both sends and receives pricing data to and from other North American Class I railroads via Railinc. Railinc is an AAR data processing company that acts as an intermediary between the carriers exchanging pricing data. Railinc edits the data and ensures that it is forwarded to only the carriers participating in the route. CSXT sends interline prices to Railinc and receives interline prices from other carriers via Railinc. Prices that are received from other carriers are used to rate interline waybills as part of the Rating System.

Process developed in Mainframe on COBOL – CICS thru CTG with IMS, DB2, SQL Server & Oracle connectivity and EDI connections through GENTRAN.

Unit Train Management System (UTMS) is a part of the Transportation Management System (TMS), which involves shipment of commodities like coal, grain, and bulk from load origin to the destination. The term unit train is used since the goods in the entire train are of the same commodity type. Unit train monthly planner model is developed to determine the optimal level of orders / reservations activated within the current and planning month time horizons by maximizing the CSX and private customer’s resources (i.e., cars and locomotives). A set of business rules and resource constraints are obeyed while optimizing this objective. A diverse set of input data (UTMS) is fed to the model to construct its objective function and the constraints.

CSX transportation upgraded all it program to the latest version of COBOL. This was initiated to ensure that the latest version of CICS could be installed which would support only the newer versions of COBOL. Programs written with old compiler like OS/VS and Cobol II were upgraded to Enterprise Cobol. Close to 5000 modules were upgraded.
